Refund in store credit expiring in two weeks

Hello all
I had a problem with the Google Store recently. I returned some headphones that were faulty. I had paid for them with GBP 150 in store credit that I had from a previous purchase promotion. Google accepted the return and refunded me in store credit, which made sense,
What did not make sense is that the refunded store credit was set to expire two weeks after being issued. I thought this was just an error but Google tell me this is their normal policy.
My question is whether it is legal to refund in credit that expires so quickly? It makes sense that Google can refund as credit given that is how I paid, but not that it can expire so quickly that it forces you to make an unwanted purchase or lose it. I have complained already and got nowhere. I am considering small claims but that is problematic because Google is not a UK company.
Thanks
Andy

No, I think that was much longer. The response from Google also did not say that.0
