Cannot travel due to pregnancy

Second Anniversary

We booked a holiday last November through Onthebeach and this year found out my partner is pregnant, and as a result we will be 38 weeks pregnant on return with a planned labour days of 39 weeks due to previous problems so we are unable to fly for obvious reasons

For us to rearrange the holiday to the following august they want a shocking £2,700 (the holiday didn’t cost that much in the first place!) and advised if the flight goes ahead we will lose the flight money

os this something that we can claim
Through our insurance at all? Or any advice how we can get our money back as it’s impossible for us to go and then quarantine for ten days when we will actually be giving birth!

Thanks

you need to check your travel insurance policy to see whether it covers cancellation due pregnancy
Unlikely to be able to fly either direction at that stage, airlines have a cutoff at which point a fit to fly certificate is required and there have been posts where fit to fly certificates have not been issued due risks with covid
Depending on the airline and how it has been booked by OTB, it may be possible to get credit/voucher for future use

Very few policies cover pregnancy as it is not an unexpected event, it is possible to avoid it and insurance doesn't normally cover events under your control. Hopefully, you bought a high-quality policy but if not you are subject to the booking conditions you agreed to. Pregnancy gives no rights to a free cancellation and in the current circumstances, holiday companies are not flush with cash to offer Ex Gracia payments. I wish both much happiness with the forthcoming event but sorry for your likely financial loss!

You have no right to a refund unless the holiday/flight is cancelled as it is not the airline's or tour operator's fault that you are unable to travel. Many travel insurance policies appear not to include cancellation due to pregnancy so you will have to check your policy very carefully.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

You’ll be entitled to the taxes back and perhaps something from insurance - but that’s unlikely.
The travel agent etc owe you nothing; they’ve done nothing wrong so can’t be expected to front any costs.
Unfortunately you’re going to need to suck this one up I’m afraid.

Congratulations on the new arrival though, totally worth it  :)

Pregnancy is seen as a choice and so doesn't create a right of cancellation or grounds for a claim.

Isolation will almost certainly be gone by the time you are back, news today says it'll go on the 19th but there are clearly other reasons why travel wouldn't be sensible. Compared to the total cost of having a kid a lost holiday is tiny but ultimately your choice is baby or holiday and you'd hope that one of those is a non-starter.
  • As others have said, you chose to get pregnant, knowing when the holiday was, so no-one’s going to compensate you.

I think that a missed week on the beach is going to feel far less important when you get to hold your new baby for the first time, so try not to dwell on it too much.

I'm afraid you chose the wrong operator - what on earth possessed you to book with them at the height of the pandemic ?

Did you do any research into their performance with regard to refunds cancellations not to mention high tailing out of ABTA to compound the litany of disaster suffered by their clientele ?

If you'd booked with BA all you would have fronted so far would have been a minimal deposit with the balance due three weeks before travel. Up to that point you could have cancelled and had your deposit returned in the the form of a voucher.

I find it hard to believe that people are handing over thousands of pounds without any rudimentary research into the grateful recipients.

Just pray that your flights are cancelled which assuming you've got a package will entitle you to a full refund.
