Expenses Claim

I work from home 4 days a week and go into office 1 day a week. My firm deduct 1 day that I am in the office from the £6 weekly government entitlement. Is this correct?

It sounds like your employer are actually paying you the £6 rather than, as most other employers are, expecting you to claim the tax back on the £6 from HMRC. In which case yes, subject to anything in your contract which says they can't

Technically there isn't a "correct"/"incorrect" answer here as your employer isn't obligated to pay the £6 per week working from home allowance; many can't or aren't making these payments to staff at all.

As you're not working from home and your employer will have costs relating to you being in the workplace on this one day per week, I  think it's perfectly reasonable that make a deduction they day that you're not working from home.

What the company agree to pay you is separate from what the Government allow you to receive without incurring income tax liability.

It sounds as though you are saying you WFH for 4 days and in the office for 1 day each week.  The tax exempt payment is capped at £6 per week (£1.20 per day for 5 days per week).

If I understand correctly, your employer is paying you an allowance to WFH of £4.80 per week.  That is more than many employers pay - there are some that pay nothing.

Are you saving in other ways when not in the office?

If your employer paid you nothing, and you were left to claim the tax allowance, that would be worth £1.20 per week for a basic rate tax payer.
