I would be really interested to know from as many private investors as possible what is it that they feel is missing regarding information on companies to invest in. This will help me with a research project. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

Personally I think it's the opposite problem, if any - there is such a plethora of public domain information about companies that it's challenging to pick out the right sources. Companies themselves will publish factual data in annual report form plus all regulatory disclosures, press releases, etc, and all sorts of analysts pore over those, while numerous websites, blogs, forums, reddits, etc, offer a platform for anyone to sound off as they see fit!
Listed companies will typically be subject to fairly stringent regulation about what data they can publish and how/when, so even if there was an information gap, that's not to say that it could be filled....3 -
Doing my own research project finds that searching 'OPs name + investment' matches owner of investment management firm that will apparently charge me, as a private investor, 100s or 1000s of dollars for reports on companies/sectors.

What further information needs to be in the public domain? Investing in individual companies is full of uncertainty. That's the nature of the game.JamesGozzard said:I would be really interested to know from as many private investors as possible what is it that they feel is missing regarding information on companies to invest in. Free and unrestricted access to broker research would be nice.“Like a bunch of cod fishermen after all the cod’s been overfished, they don’t catch a lot of cod, but they keep on fishing in the same waters. That’s what’s happened to all these value investors. Maybe they should move to where the fish are.” Charlie Munger, vice chairman, Berkshire Hathaway0
