A lot will depend on what sort of bypass you have for the heating loop, some will have a radiator and others will have a valve. The latter should be fairly close to the boiler so the extra use will be minimal, a radiator not so cheap but still not bank breaking.

My hot water is a gravity fed indirect system - No diverter or zone valves.If I heat just a tank of water from cold with the radiators all "on" (I have TRVs fitted), I use about 20% more gas than if all the radiators are turned off.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Your diverter valve may have a manual override that you can use to set it to hot water only until you get it fixed. But be careful you don't set it to heating only with all your valves turned off in case your system does not have a proper bypass.Reed0
