... perhaps they should have gone to specsavers...
They would then realise that it is a Gesture of Goodwill in giving a discount they do not have too.

Can't see why people do not see that

Specsavers regularly have a multitude of offers running
The usual is the BOGOF and  20% off for 60 +
They regularly put out mailshots / junkmail with a 20% off voucher
You can only use one offer at a time.
The mailshot voucher can be used as a discretionary offer by staff.

It's a funny situation.  The actual price charged in the 'two for one', when the discount is considered, would appear to be retail price (cost plus whatever to make profit) of the first pair in addition to cost price only for the second pair.  Presumably, then, when one purchases a single pair only, the branch is obliged to offer discount equivalent to the second pair's cost price; one would otherwise be paying for goods one does not receive.  If it's not possible to buy one pair only at list price, then it would appear not to be a genuine two for one deal.

Incidentally this explains a rather odd experience I had in Specsavers.  I wanted two pairs of glasses, main and reserve.  I chose a designer pair as main, and bog standard pair as reserve.  They were from different ranges.  The lady got a bit funny when I explained this.  She said that both pairs 'should really be from the same range'.  I said that I didn't see why, as the 'free' frames I wanted were from a range down from the designer pair.  As I recall I was then obliged to swap my chosen 'free' frames for more expensive 'free' frames.  Perhaps this is another facet of the same issue?  Choosing a frame costing less than the 'cost price' contained within the two for one price would require a discount to be offered, maybe.

n.b.  The Specsavers glasses were rubbish and gave me constant headaches.  I was obliged, after a year or so, to go to an independent optician.  She carried out a proper eye test and had two more pairs of glasses made up to a slightly different prescription.  The new glasses are superior in every way, if more expensive.

Funnily enough I've used both well respected independents and Specsavers.  To be honest, the Specsavers branch I use, provides excellent service and advice and I'm delighted to keep using them.  (Although I don't take up any offers that don't make sense to me).

I think Specsavers are a franchise so probably depends very much on the people running and managing particular branches

So instead of paying £100 for one pair the OP is upset that he was offered a discount on that price.

Im rather disappointed you are not reading the thread.  If you go to a car dealer and they are offering 0% and the dealer offers you a lower price for a non finance deal then thats a no no.

     So get a grip.

No - the OP is upset that Specsavers are misleading people into believing thet the purchase price of one pair of specatcles is £100 when in fact it is only £50.   (Or whatever the appropriate prices and discount are)

    Do you not see?       :D

There's no need to be rude to people who see things slightly differently.   It's an interesting debate and is all about perspective.  Telling someone to "get a grip" is rather ironic when your original complaint is about something so trivial.

I'm rather disappointed you are not reading the thread. I've already explained that's unlawful for a completely different reason.
  • All the opticians that I have used in recent years have had some kind of offer. I have just looked at GlassesDirect: a company often heralded by this site.

With their 2 for 1 deal on frames, I could get 2 pairs of glasses for £77 including free prescription lenses. A single pair of glasses will cost me £63 less 20% off or £51.35. This is what they are offering. I see nothing underhand here. It is probably the case that a certain amount of time is needed to set up the machine to produce a set of lenses, and pressing the the Go button twice does not incur a repeat of the set up process.

My wife has just been to her local opticians and their offer was a free reglazing of the old spectacles frame with single vision prescription lenses. If the offer wasn’t taken up they were offering no discount on the new spectacles.

There is nothing wrong in offering different deals.  It’s when one deal is undermines another that the problem arises.

if you saw an ad which says:
‘two for the price of one but if you buy just one the price of one will be cheaper’ would you be confused?  Would you trust that seller?
