DFS Sofa delivery never arrived when stated

Hi, Just looking for some advice, we ordered a Sofa from DFS about 9-10 weeks ago, it was due to arrive in around 10 weeks or so when we ordered it.
A week ago we got a phone call with a delivery date of 5th July 2021. On Sunday 3rd July I got a text to say it would be delivered between 7:00am - 9:49am.
So we got rid of our current Sofa ready for the new one. Delivery didn't show up in the window. About 10:15 I get a phone call from DFS to say there has been an issue with customs or something and the Sofa won't be delivered today! So now i've wasted a day off work, we have no sofa at all now and no idea when the new sofa will arrive.
Do I have an case to ask them to be compensated for this? Surely if the sofa hadn't arrived at their distribution centre the text delivery window should never have been sent out?
Thanks
Brian

You can of course ask for something, but any compensation would be down to your actual losses and the exact contract you have with them.
When it comes to your losses, can you quantify them and did you minimise them? i.e. surely you didn't take a whole day off work just to receive a sofa in a three hour window at the start of the day?
I'd be onto to them to complain and nicely ask for a discount, or free cushions or something. I suspect you're entitled to nothing much at all so a nice approach might elicit a positive gesture for your inconvenience.1 -
I didn't know the time of the delivery until the day before (I only knew the date of the delivery up until then), I was charged £69 for delivery, To get that back as a good will gesture wouldn't go wrong.
I need to arrange more time off the next time I get a delivery date to receive the delivery (Hopefully), unless I can persuade them to deliver it at the weekend/ after 5:30pm
Its being stuck in the position that we have nothing to sit on in the Livingroom now and no idea when DFS might get the sofa to us now....0 -
I agree, at least something off the cost of delivery would be a fair gesture.
I'm afraid that it's never wise to throw out your old sofa before the new one has definitely arrived and has been checked to make sure it's not damaged, etc. Have you got some garden chairs you could use temporarily? Or buy some for a few quid?1 -
The problem with the size of a sofa and a new one is they wouldn't both fit in the house at the same time....
I'll chase DFS to see if I can pin down a new delivery date before I spend any money on temporary seating...0 -
Furniture companies are typically quite good at loaning a sofa (e.g. display or similar) when this scenario happens. Speak to them and see what they say.1
