Just over four years ago, I had solar panels fitted. Shortly after, I noticed the electric meter was running backwards when the sun was shining. I immediately got onto EDF to let them know and they came and fitted smart meters to both gas and electric meters plus in home display. I have been very happy with this, and have used the in home display to its fullest extent, which has resulted in a considerable saving in direct debit payments. All good so far.
However, about Christmas time 2020, the electricity part of the display started playing up and would only show the actual meter reading, gas was fully funtional. Got in touch with EDF to get a new display, and they tell me that because it it is a SMET1 (??) they couldn't give a new display and would have to wait until the rolled out the new (SMET2??) meters. This fault has now escalated and the display is now useless and doesn't show any info from either electricity nor gas (not so smart meter), and will not reset, nor pair with the meters.
EDF have reitterated I will have to wait to get new meters, and cannot give me an estimate when they will be changed. Having got used to having this facillity, I am loath to wait for who knows how long, so I an now considering switching suppliers. The question is, who can I switch to who will fit smart meters on switching? TIA.

@Archibald535 Can you confirm please that although the title is Smart Meter Display it is the IHD that does not display and the actual meter is fine ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Yes, you're correct, I can read the meter itself, not the IHD.

There are no plans to replace SMETS1 meters. The DCC is rolling out firmware updates to enable them to access your meter data. This will not change what the IHD displays.
Suppliers are not on the hook for IHD replacements but most will offer you a new IHD to keep your custom, or they may offer one at a small charge.0
