Hi All,

Had a person knock on the door this morning from Vocon Energy Limited saying our Gas Meter is at the end of it's life cycle and needs replacing.

Fairly sure this is legit from what I've been able to find online. Is anyone able to confirm and if so, is there anything I should be wary of when it is replaced? It's an old Gas meter, no idea how to check exactly how old (and not sure whether that matters on not to be fair!) and I understand it will be replaced with a meter with the same functionality. We do not have a Smart meter (and at present not really bothered having one) so that wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks in advice

Vocon will be operating on behalf of your energy supplier, so check with your supplier that this is something they have arranged...

Highly unlikely that Vocon will be fitting anything other than a smart meter and they will most likely swap the electricity meter at the same time, so if you are expecting anything else get that in writing...
  • From what i can gather - nothing to do with Electric meter and they we're operating on behalf of "Network Plus". Have only moved to Octopus last 2 weeks ago so would be highly sceptical of them sending them over!

Then this is one of the rare ones where the owner of the meter is arranging to replace it and so there is a good chance that it could be a traditional non-smart meter...
On the flip-side, they do not do this sort of swap unless your meter really has reached the end of its useful life so worth making sure the work does get done...

I accept the answer can only be approximate but roughly how long would one expect a traditional non smart meter to last before needing replacement?

When the meter is replaced, make sure to take a photo of the old meter, especially if it is an old imperial one. When your bill comes through, check to make sure that the new readings are in Cubic Metres and that they are not using a Cubic Feet conversion - If they do, you'll find your bill increasing threefold.
