Password on Credit File

Hello Hoping someone can help. It seems that my address is being used to take out car insurance - A few months back I received insurance documents through the post that were not for a car I owned. I resolved this with the insurance company and treated it as a one-off but now I have received a speeding notice for another car I do not own and the DVLA assure me that the car is not registered to my address so I can only assume that the address was taken from the Motor Insurance database.
I have run a credit report on myself and there are loads of soft searches from insurance companies that are not relating to me. Most show a name similar but not the same as mine. I am now fearful that there are many insurances out there linked to me.
Is there any way I can find out this information?
Is there any way I can stop it happening?
I understand I can set up a password on my credit file using a notice of correction, do I have to set this up separately with all the credit agencies or just once and it will it be held centrally?
Will doing this stop it happening?
Appreciate anyone's advice

Adding some sort of NOC or marker will mean all your individual applications being manually reviewed so it would be sensible to be careful with this.
A one off insurance application which you resolved along with an incorrect NTK doesn't sound like a lot of problems, just a one off where someone has registered their car and/or license to your address. Soft searches for insurers happen all the time, particularly near your renewal if you use comparison sites, they don't have any impact on your record1
