TV Unwatchable 2 years after purchase.

We bought a 55" LG TV from Currys for £519 back in May 2019.
The TV is securely mounted to the wall and well kept, we are a family of two (no children, no pets).

Recently the TV stopped showing any video, no volume slider , not even the LG logo on power up, audio will still output but that is all. I got in touch with team Knowhow and they charged us £90 for the TV to be analysed for repair at an LG Service Center. Knowhow came back to me and informed me the LCD Screen Matrix needs replacing for a cost of £469. This price plus the £90 we've already invested is more than what we paid for the TV initially.
I do believe the TV should last longer than 2 years... and know this damage is not caused from us.
Is there anything we can do / say or is this just a lost cause..?

Thanks

    You need to remind Currys of your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act, though Currys are very poor on this front.

    Hopefully they won't request an engineers report on the basis they've already diagnosed the issue via LG
  • Advise Currys that you wish to seek a remedy under the Consumer Rights Act as you believe the goods do not conform to the contract in terms of durability as per:

    www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/9/enacted

    (3)The quality of goods includes their state and condition; and the following aspects (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods—

    (a)fitness for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are usually supplied;

    (b)appearance and finish;

    (c)freedom from minor defects;

    (d)safety;

    (e)durability.

    Request Currys cover the £90 paid for the unit to be inspected to confirm the fault was not caused by misuse/customer damage.

    You might not get far with general customer services but can Google "CEO email" and then search that site for Currys to get a contact for a higher level of customer facing staff.

    Curry should repair, replace or refund. It's likely they'll refund and they can reduce the refund to account for ownership. Their first offer is likely to be low so it's worth haggling.

    Too late to help you now, but but for other potential buyers, the same purchase from RS or JL would have got you a five year warranty...
    You should certainly try the CRA 2015 approach to DSG, but I wouldn't bet on a positive result.
