Service plan

I've been quoted £496.45 for a VW service plan for a just under 3 yrs old Golf and this is from a VW main dealer. The service covers a minor and major service (2 services).
My last car was a shed hence I used cheap Indies but as I have a 2 year warranty on my car via VW Used Approved dealer I am keen to use VW for at least the warranty period.
Maybe a silly qu but is £496.45 reasonable or should be shopping around a bit more?
Thanks

My intermediate service with Peugeot cost £160, I expect the major service next year to be about double so around £500 seems reasonable for a dealer service. Depends what you want to spend. Indy's can provide the same quality service for less money, depends on the Indy. I stuck with the dealer this year as they collected and returned the car, cleaned it inside and out, and provided a full vehicle report. My usual indy normally just gave me a bill saying service done.

here is what you are paying for

All you are saving is the 2 year warranty cost.

Thanks both, I think I will take up as the deal as it seems to be a standard offer for cars older than a year and peace of mind.

Be sure to get full detail of what it covers (and more importantly doesn’t) because I’m finding that there are plenty of things that come up that you’ll pay extra for. There’s that nice feeling when you book for the service though, and discuss whether it’s a Minor or Major and the service manager confirms that you’re covered by the service plan.

Be sure to understand whether the service plan is for any VW Dealer, or only the Dealer / chain selling you the plan.

Do VW allow you to buy a plan online direct?

I am pricing up similar plans with a Kia to retain the 7 year warranty (I know I dont have to take to main dealer)- the dealer quote is >£100 more for exactly the same 2 services when I get a quote online direct with Kia.

Is it just me who reads the warranty information for these schemes and thinks "what a complete waste of time". Anything that is likely to go wrong is never covered. I always worry about the electronics in modern cars. "All wiring and connections excluded". I thought manufacturers warranties were supposed to be good but all the ones I have read recently are rubbish.

Thanks all for the input. I will certainly check exactly what I am purchasing and what it covers and/or whether there are any key servicing items that are not included.
The 2  warranty was included in the car purchase price.

Knowing my luck the car will be fine during the warranty period and once I'm outside of warranty there will likely be issues but hopefully not!
I have no regrets buying the car and am hoping regular timely servicing will keep it running well but the two areas that could result in hefty bills would be the DSG transmission and the TSI engine.
I agree about the earlier point on complexity of modern cars..it's scary and no surprise they go wrong.
I went from a 16 yr old shed to.my current car and whilst the newer car is much nicer to drive....there is a price to pay for that niceness.......
