Hi My first post on here and hoping for some help.
I recently tried to get a rebate on my account as i had £750 credit I wrote to Orbit and received no reply I tried again once this hit £850 credit and after seeing Martin on the TV advising us to get our money back. I got no where so I moved suppliers hoping that would force the to repay the credit.
After leaving I have now received a bill for £271.00 as they have been collecting my direct debit but not charging my account.
I feel this is total miss management on their account as they had  my money and falsely told me I was in credit only to put me in debt. One minute I am £850 in credit next minute I am £300 in debt.
Please also note I have no idea of fuel costs as this is the first time I have been responsibly for fuel bills after my partner and children left going from 4  people occupying the house to one I believed there would be some credit.
thanks in advance

  • I feel for you. Account credit/debit balances are meaningless unless they are based on an actual meter reading. Did you not wonder how you had managed to build up such a large amount of credit? Have you been providing any meter readings?

Yes suppliers have a duty to bill you correctly. Indeed, under Ofgem rules, if you haven’t received a bill in the previous 12 months, The Back Billing Code applies and the supplier cannot bill you for any energy consumed in the months prior to the last 12 months. By way of example, if you have a statement covering the period from 1 Jan 20 through until today, the supplier has to remove the charges for the period 1 Jan 20 through until 4 Jul 20; that is, you only pay for the last 12 months.

Your only other option is to raise a written complaint. This might result in a small amount of compensation for poor customer service.

Hi I have raised a complaint and they offered £20 which was raised to £40 as that reduced my debt to zero they then came back in with my final bill of over £250. th9is is totally their fault as i would not have changed supplies if i had know that i owed NEARLY £300. I budgeted to receive £850 back this is not a minor different it is over a £1000.
as I explained i had to change suppliers and take over the energy bills when my partner left with my children. So I entered how much power we used as a family but have no sight into what our bills looked like before.
I paid them they didnt take the money until i left that is not right.
