O/S Daily Monday 5 July 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast and raining, laying water so it's been raining from sometime during the night.
DS1 moving about so getting ready for work. DH and myself chilling with a cuppa.
Roast pork was lovely and there's some LO's.
Menfolk had a couple of out side jobs to do yesterday which they got done - just as they finished the rain started but then didn't amount too much. DH pleased though this morning as it's raining again this morning.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Despite all the dire warnings yesterday stayed dry and mostly sunny. I washed a large number of towels, got them all dry and then gave them all to the neighbour up the big hill to use for his dogs. Now I am back to an 'appropriate' amount of towels. 🤣
I was about to do a tip run (when will they end?) when this same neighbour rang to ask me do to a wee task for him at one of his cottages which I did. Turns out that the chap at the cottage and I have mutual friends in Glasgow, well, more like acquaintances for me. It really is a small world, this must be a score of one on the Bacon scale. So yesterday passed in easy jobs and pleasant times. Today will be mostly wet I suspect, it's been raining overnight so the garden will be all the better for it. I was going to water it last night but felt too lazy. I will spend some more time rationalising the contents of my bedroom drawers. Happy days!I haven't heard back from the estate agents so perhaps they'll get in touch today. I don't know how these processes work but won't get stressed about it, yet. 😀
For now my thoughts are with those who are struggling. Happy Monday to all.12 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's a wet start here, it seems to have rained quite a lot overnight. Yesterday was warm and sunny until about 5 o'clock, but we'd tidied up outside, and got washing dry so it wasn't a bad day.DS and family came over, it's DH's birthday today and they came with a present and card, and stayed for lunch which was nice.We had a lovely few days in N Yorks last week, mainly fine, and we returned on Saturday.I'm glad that things seem to be calming down for you Gers, you've had a busy few weeks.Hope everyone is ok, and has a good day today.Take care folks.12

Morning folks and thanks GERS for the new Daily. Your words about having too much stuff have struck a chord with me and I am determined I will start pruning everything after my few away days. I have a ridiculous number of clothes I don't wear (and probably never will) so a lot of those will be getting packed up for the cs. That will be my start towards minimising!
I have yet to pack any clothes or food for my caravan stay, not to mention all the stuff Sparkle needs! So far I have picked out a few books to take with me and that's all!! DD is running me over when she finishes work so I have all morning to get organised. And get Sparkle into the dreaded carrier! I am looking forward to a peaceful few days back at the site again to enjoy the lovely views down to the Nidd and watching all the wildlife. Still no wifi at the site so I will be incommunicado until the weekend. I can keep abreast of any news you have on my phone but it's a toil of a pleasure trying to type all my waffle on it!
At the moment the sun is shining but they say we will have more rain at some point this morning. It sounds to be the story of the week, sunshine and showers. Have a good day if you can folks and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, sad or woeful. Take care all xx

Hi everyone,
Have a lovely break TA, I know what you mean about the phone, I hate typing anything of any length on it.
I was hoping to sleep a bit longer but about 5 hours a night seems to be my limit atm, I miss sleep.
It looks as if it will be a nice day but the forecast isn't too encouraging tonight and tomorrow. Steve is golfing this morning but he will be given some house jobs when he comes home.
I made a list of a number of things we want to change or replace around the house over the next few months, ranging from a new floor covering for the hallway to a drop down cutting table in the dining/sewing room. Hopefully we'll be able to get them done in the next few months. Most of them are simple jobs although the cutting table is a bit more complicated.
Have a good day all.12 -
Morning everyone
It was very foggy here most of yesterday and then poured all night and is still raining
I had little one for the afternoon and she wanted to go out so we walked round to the little park nearby. She was very excited to tell DD 'we went to the park in the foggy!' After tea she drew lots of pictures and went crazy with a balloon.
Work all day today - only 2 more weeks till end of term now.
I've booked to go to London for a couple of days at the beginning of the school holidays - don't know if it's a good idea or not, but feel I need to 'escape'. I'll sit by myself on the train and wear a mask all the time obviously - I've booked 3 museums to visit. Still hoping to visit eldest DD in Germany at the end of August but who knows?
Well I'd better move - hope everyone has a good day
TA enjoy your break away

Morning all! Sunny here. I've just been out inspecting the front garden. I can't grow poppies on purpose, they just appear suddenly if I'm lucky. This year I had a lovely red/magenta and black one, the only one, let's hope it's seeds are more germination prone than any I've sown in the past. The magpies are a noisy bunch this morning but the cats are still chirruping at them. Why do cats 'talk' to birds? A local garage in Wales managed to sort the exhaust problem so one thing down. I also did a few jobs for my sister when I went back and she enjoyed having some company, she's pretty much been on her own for the last 18 months and I enjoyed seeing her. She also phoned Italy when I as there so I got to speak to my machine gun talking style cousins daughter. She's so funny and a really lovely kid. I didnt get everything done of what I wanted to do but other things are more important sometimes. Next time....Today is take car to get some more stuff done to it, hoovering and tidying, bit of gardening, I have pelargoniums to pot up in a nice new pot, food is sorted, enchiladas made Saturday, this will be the last lot and sort out my workbench for making my sister some new ends for her pulley. I'm going fancy and putting some curlicues or something on it. My father made it orginally so it has to be at least 50 years old. It's going to be like Triggers broom before long.Nanny, I was quite surprised, hardly any slalom poles on the roads, just new stretches of 50mph limits...Hopefully not much more to'ing and fro'ing for you both and the treatment does some good. Gers, looks like your work has inspired everyone else to do some emptying...it has me! Not much left for you to do now and you can enjoy your home. TA,enjoy your trip away, will sparkle be a van cat? Snoozer, can you come andmake a list here too please? You've actually given me a push to do something similar and I wouldn't have thought of making an actual list, I try to keep it all in my head and then forget it all
I bid you all a good day if you can and hope you get the weather you want...

TA - have a lovely time with the family.Scarlet - welcome back, glad you had fine weather.Bella - good advice, thanks. I will.Snoozer - your changes sound good, I hope they work out.Dp1 - seems that 'Mutti Merkel' has backtracked from her harsh stance about UK visitors. I'm hoping for a trip to Berlin this year.Taff - my poppies are the same, and I've lost the two lovely big ones which were there naturally. I will try again now that I can see bare soil and it's been disturbed.I've been rooting in the top shelf in my wardrobe, there's stuff in it that I don't recall ever owning. Lesson learned, hope lesson remembered.11

Morning All
The good weather has certainly left us, torrential rain and thunder storms yesterday with more rain today - just when I have mountains of washing. I did a towel load yesterday and put it in the TD, it was an emergency, there were no towels left! All the bedding can be done over the next week or so, no rush for that.
I had DS1 and his GF and the DGC here over the weekend, DD, partner and the little one joined us yesterday for brunch, I was glad when they all went home and I could tidy up. Lovely to have them here though, I'm very lucky.
It's a day of nothing today although I have already dismantled the toddler bed as someone should be coming to pick it up this afternoon so that's one thing done. No gardening to do, everything will be well watered now and the grass will have to wait for some more dry weather.
Enjoy your break TA.
You are definitely on a roll Gers, perhaps you could come and sort this house out!
Glad you enjoyed spending time with your sister -taff.
Sounds like you had a good trip away Scarlett.
Have a happy Monday, take care. XX11
