You will have to wait for the courts to do their thing.  If the court accepts their excuses not a lot you can do to hurry things along.  Who are you actually taking to court - individual, ltd company ?  Who did you actually but the car from - him, his wife, ltd company or other entity ?
Thank you for your reply without judgement. It isn’t easy admitting you’ve made a huge mistake! So thank you.  The car trader is a public limited company.

The odds that the company is still trading when you eventually win the case are quite slim.  If the company is in his partner's name, then he has probably already been through several companies himself.

If paying you back looks like it will cost too much, the company can be wound up, and a new one opened in the name of the new baby, the grandmother, the dog or the cat.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Public or private? There's a considerable difference between the two types.
