Put me off, I prefer a main supply - gives me options to change supplier.

LPG is stupidly expensive and those on it have little or no idea of how much they are being fleeced.
This is simply not true, except when people are daft enough to fall onto default tariffs.
I beg to differ. But if you feel better thinking LPG is a cost effective way of heating your home then good for you.

We bought a house with no central heating but it did have a 60 year old Rayburn that was oil fired. We knew it would be more expensive than mains gas largely because of the inefficient Rayburn.
It didn't put us off, we wanted more rural and that comes with no mains gas as a rule.
The thing I didn't expect was that the house insurance would be so much more with oil/wood burning. Oil leakage cleanup is horribly expensive and insurance companies ramp the price to take account of it even if the risk is low. I think it adds £50 a year to our insurance.

We know several people with oil fired central heating and it works out quite economically for all of them. In addition, I understand oil fired boilers tend to last significantly longer than traditional boilers.

Real-world experience over the last eight years says it certainly isn't hideously expensive.

More expensive than mains gas? Of course. But that's not an option for me.
    Cheaper than electric? Of course.
Cheaper than oil? Depends on prices. My current contract is mid-30s pence/litre. And that's before the midnight tank-emptying pixies.

Yes, there is no mains gas.  The property is 19 years old.  On balance I don't think we will view.  It is five miles from a GP surgery (Dulverton).  OK, there is a village shop and pub and there are a few shops in Dulverton but the location is 15 miles from either Minehead or Taunton.  Plus it is a 250 mile round trip to view.

As we are getting on (60's) we will stick to the Minehead area.

Thank you for the informative responses.

Fingers crossed we find somewhere before our second buyer gets fed up .....

Yes, I'd prefer mains gas, but property location was important and if the area isn't connected to mains gas then oil or LPG are the options. After a lifetime of mains gas getting used to what looks like a huge oil boiler in the garage is rather strange.

When I moved in oil level in the tank was low so needed to find a supplier. Found a locally based oil club who send weekly email with that weeks prices and I decide when to order.
