Full time PAYE, but doing 1 freelance job tax question

in Cutting tax
Hey, I wanted some advice from anyone who might be able to help. I'm currently PAYE in my full time job, but got offered a small one time only freelance job from a friend who needed help, basically a weekends worth of work. The small job is paying £2000.
What I'm stumped with is what do I do with the tax on this? Since everything comes out of my full time job normally, I'm not sure how I handle this extra wage.... do I need to submit a return for this soon? Sorry for the silly questions, just never been in this situation before and needed some advice.

It depends on whether you are going to be treated as an (temporary/ casual) employee for the freelance work or self-employed. If employed, they will apply a tax code. This "should" take care of any tax (BR is basic rate, D0 will take 40% and D1 will take 45%). I say "should" as the timeframe is short you may need to complete an end of year return to make up any shortfall/ claim any rebate. Tax returns are quite easy if you follow the steps.
If self-employed you will need to register with HMRC as self-employed, (search 'HMRC register as self-employed" as I cannot post links for some reason - with the small amount of turnover you should defer (cancel) any Class 2 NIC.0
