This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks. An hour ago the day was bright and promised much, now it's cloudy and not so promising.Camelot reported torrential rain where she lives though not a drop made it further north.I made it back home for a wee while. After a bit of faffing around in the morning I finally packed up some of my things, changed the bed linen and did a sweep / vacuum round. The drive here was better than I expected despite the drivers who had to brake at every turn in the road.My garden is looking splendid if rather bare now that it's all been weeded. Some of the planting I had done three years ago has been lost though it can all be replaced easily enough. Maybe my gardener can do some proper planning 🌺
Today I'll be unpacking and probably chucking out things. I'm determined to minimise my own belongings having ploughed through my beloved DM's things for the past five weeks, with more to be done. For now I'm going to do a little more browsing, I want to chose a rose to plant for DM, probably the Mary Berry one as it has a fantastic smell and Mum loved MB recipes. I'll be waiting for a bare root later in the year. The bright red 'Girl Guides' rose bush is just in full bloom at my front door and looks fabulous. I'll get a photo up soon.My thoughts are with all our poorlies and missing. Happy Saturday to all.12 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast start to the day, rain forecast for later. Yesterday went very muggy and eventually we got dark skies and a very sudden heavy downpour - supposedly with thunder/lightening but it didn't happen and the rain only lasted a few minutes - 10 minutes later the ground was dry again - more rain forecast in the coming days though.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa with a brekkie bar, DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pie, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight we're having a SM indian takeaway meal.
Yesterday I got done pretty much what I wanted.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks GERS for kicking off. A beautiful photo. Enjoy your much deserved time at home. It's supposed to be raining here too according to the forecast but, as yet, it isn't! The pots are again in need of a good drenching so I'm hoping we get at least one good downpour to save me watering them again.
And whilst I am on about water I had a nice surprise yesterday when I got my water meter reading annual update. I must have done better at rationing my supplies as my monthly payment has gone down from £20 to £16 a month. Every little helps!
I'm not making my quick Saturday morning trip into town as I have youngest DGD coming for the day. DD is working, middle DGD going to a christening and eldest DGD has gone to the Timber Festival in Leicestershire for 3 days of music, forests, art and ideas for nature lovers. She sent me a photo of the tent all set up. I hope the promised thunderstorms bypass them! So youngest is coming to grandma to be spoilt for the day!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking especially of our poorlies and MIA. Take care one and all xx

Hi everyone,
I had a very tiring day yesterday. Esben is getting back to top form so he was very busy most of the day. He's just getting into the toddler tantrum phase and had a mega one yesterday, he threw all the cushions off the settee and banged his head on the cushions. I'm an old hand though, his mother used to have even more nuclear tantrums, I just ignored him, except when he went to scratch his face and I held his arms until he calmed down. Most of the time he was lovely though and we had a really good day. We will be there for 3 days next week when Brian goes to Glasgow but Steve will be with me to help.
Today I will be having a rest, I'm a bit cross that I couldn't sleep any longer than I did. Lots of sport watching today, F1 qualifying, tennis, the England match and the Tour de France. I am fascinated by the Tour, I used to think cycle racing was uninteresting until I started watching the year Bradley Wiggins won and got caught up by all the tactics and different stages.
There seem to be quite a few people missing at the moment, I hope it's because they are all off doing interesting things and not because they are sad or unwell.

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
Very difficult day yesterday with Steve, he was confused and irritable but we did manage to get a Chinese takeaway, first one for three years. It was delicious.
I'm hoping for a restful day today but I expect Steve will have other ideas.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.
Chin up, Titus out.11 -
Snoozer - you sound like you're in sport heaven. 😀 I'm not such a fan of watching most sports.TA - enjoy your day with your DGD, it seems so long since it's happened.Hester - my fingers are crossed for you to have your restful day.I've been out washing my washing whirlybird thing, when I wanted to hang out the newly cleaned bed linen yesterday evening I found each line covered in green algae 😱 only to be expected I suppose but it was a surprise. Now I've got a gleaming washing whirly and the linen back in the machine for a rinse. My fridge freezer is still beeping away, it does that until it reaches the correct temperature, could be hours more. Once I've hung out the washing I think I'll drive up to Oban to start restocking my empty cupboards and freezer.10

Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers enjoy your days at home and I hope todays viewings go well.
We have had some rain overnight, its a very grey morning but I do not think its still raining. The gardener is coming today to dig out the grass around where the green house is going, so we need to mark it out and move the base frame. We might get the base cemented in, depends on the weather. The forecast is for storms!!
We have been keeping the nreghbours in strawberries since we came back. Yesterday I was given a ready cooked shephers pie, I am going to portion it up there is enough for 2 suppers, so one for tonight and one in the freezer. I have some tinned veg that needs using up, so it will be a ding supper, using the microwave covers that DD1 got from Ikea for me. I just need to make some extra gravy.
Apart from starting the greenhouse, nothing much is planned for today. There is a bit of cutting back to do in the garden, Foxgloves and lupins need the spent flowers cutting off before they set seed. The peony also has some flowers that have been wrecked by the rain, they need a haircut too as does the alchemilla mollis that is trying to take over the front garden. Cut back it will regrown to give us another flowering.
So tonights supper is shepherds pie with veg, I was given a toffee loaf (cake) yesterday, we had some with ice cream last night, so it will be the same tonight.8 -
Morning all
Its been raining here this morning but stopped now,we are promised sunshine for this afternoon I do hope so as we are planning a bbq and the lawn needs cutting.
OH has gone to the boot sale so all peaceful here just having a cuppa and will then get some breakfast, I seem to have amased 32 eggsso I need to start eating some so I might have boiled eggs and soldiers !
Took mum shopping yesterday and delivered her home and took the bags in for her then came home and bought all mine in and unpacked it all ( I hate unpacking shopping for some reason )
I bought a bit of brisket yesterday and last night I took the string off and laid it flat and then marinaded it in red wine, garlic, wortershire sauce, chilli and honey and lots of black pepper, I shall cook it in a low oven for a couple of hours this afternoon and then we will crisp it off on the bbq we will do it with an aubergine and red pepper and onion rice to go with it, I am already looking forward to it.
I bought a wall cabinet online with lots of pidgeon holes in to hold some of OH's camera collection he has many vintage ones bought for a few pounds at boot sales and they are really beautiful so we wanted to display some, anyway this cabinet turned up with quire a bit of damage in one of the 'holes' the backing, this wood vaneer type thing had torn and split and looked awful, I contacted the company and sent photos and they have arranged for another one to be delivered, I asked them when they would collect the damaged one and they told me to keep it ! So I went to a craft shop with a bit of the vaneer that had come off and matched it up with a bit of stiff card for 40p and OH cut it to shape and glued it into place its almost an invisible mend you have to look closely to see the difference, so I am hugely pleased, we will get this one on the wall today, it was excellent customer service and I will use them again !
Gers enjoy your time at home xxx
Nels I hope you are ok and your hands are not too sore xxx
Thinking of Marie xxx
Have good days all xxx8 -
Hello all, I'm having a quiet day chez nous and only a sm delivery, due lunchtime, will disturb me. All this motoring up and down the M4 is wearing me out, I can even tell you how many cones there are on the road on a daily basis and how many have been moved 😂 I never see any work being done though, perhaps the workers are vampires and only come out at night !We had an early appointment yesterday so I was very productive and did all the washing ( thank goodness as it's wet today ) stripped the bed and washed the bedding. It all dried and was then put away, leaving a few things for ironing tomorrow. I also got into the garden and managed to remove a stubborn shrub stump ( try saying that fast !) by eventually jumping up and down on it 😅 Good job the neighbours already know how weird I am 🤪 However there's still 2 stumps left, but my garden looks like a demolition area again with my ongoing projects. Luckily they are all around the side of the house and can't be seen from the house or road. My new plants have blossomed and my rose is a beautiful deep yellow, it's called Arthur Bell. Gers I hadn't heard about the Mary Berry one, I'll g00gle that later.taff I think I saw you weaving in and out of those cones on the M4, it's not a slalom you know 🤣 Hope your house is ok and have a safe journey back.Snoozer I thought perhaps Esben had a touch of tonsillitis, my DGS had that all the time with the same symptoms ( not eating or drinking, high temperatures) and it only subsided when he had them out. Now he eats me out of house and home !Right I suppose I'd better think about getting dressed because as nice as the delivery men are, I don't want to frighten them into never delivering here again 😮Take care allnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently10

Nanny, I had the same thought, I was very susceptible and had mine out at 11, Laura was the same and had the op when she was 7. I always knew when she was coming down with it because she wet the bed, after the op she never did again, very strange. Unfortunately not being able to see a Dr we only know that the antibiotics seem to have worked, he ate like a horse yesterday. It was lovely to hear him saying mmmm while he was eating again.10
