Hi Im travelling with my hubby on 16th July to Palma for 2 weeks. I know all the steps i need to take, fit to fly PCR test, rapid flow 2 days before return & day 2 once in uk. Im struggling with knowing who to trust for my fit to fly certificate. All 3 companies recommended by our tour operator cant guarantee results back withing 48 hours, even told instore they are struggling. I have found a company who can do the test in person & guarantees results withn 24 hours. I fly at 6 am & need the results back asap. The company is Assured Screening. Anyone had any experience with this company, In person screening ONLY???

The 48 hour limit that the Spanish impose is always going to be struggle. You also end up paying through the nose for "in person" tests which is quite ridiculous when the NHS has so many test centres sitting unused.

It looks like the testing system is starting to collapse though as I predicted in my thread on the travel board. Sadly the government don't care.

Ive booked the tests & i have checked trust pilot & a few others & it seems ok. Most of the negative feed back seems to be people who have relied on the postal tests. I think relying on postal tests is very dodgy especially as the test window is so small. fingers crossed all goes ok

The NHS test system is not for the convenience of people going on holiday.  Im involved in an aspect of the testing centres and find your comment insulting to all involved.
Perhaps the spare capacity could be used to provide convenient "at cost" testing for people who want to help the travel industry survive?

Maybe that spare capacity is being used at other centres such as the centres accepting drop ins  as well as appointments. Extra staff can be utilised there.

We have surge testing taking place in our village right now. 2 Test & trace vans along with several private vehicles have set up in the children's playground carpark. I got there with my little one for at least 30 minutes every day and I now normally see around 10-15 personnel in hi-viz tops sitting around in groups chatting to each other. I have never seen in over a week now, a single person turn up to be tested. It seems such a waste of resources.

Also, it seems anyone can order packs of 7 antigen tests whenever they like to use as often as they like without any checks what happens to them. More waste. Yet at the same time, those wanting to travel (including those who aren't just going on holiday although why should we frown at that?) have to donate significant sums of cash to private companies that have sprung up who might provide their tests kits and/or results on time.

In summary I completely agree with you.

Is the testing done exclusively by NHS sites?

With the volume of test being performed daily I would be surprised if even half of them were done by the NHS.

If they're done by private companies there's very likely a clause in the contract that prevents them from competing?

Testing sites are run by local NHS trusts, with some support from local councils. I haven’t seen any that are private, other than the ones you pay for privately.

Quite often the sites are open for testing at certain times and as a collection point for home testing kits at other times.
