Buying ASX stocks in the UK

Does anybody know any UK stock brokers who will allow smallish (~£1k) trades of Australian ASX stocks?

I believe Interactive Investor does - you can do a share search on their site.

Not exactly a UK broker - but maybe a viable alternative. This was valid pre-COVID lockdown v1.0 (Feb 2020) - the situation now might be a little different.
If you are an expat Aussie with an Australian Passport but working (now stuck?) in the UK - you can open an expat Bank Account & ASX Investment Account with Westpac. Westpac have a branch in London and will assist with the opening & verification of documents just as if you were based in OZ. Added benefit is that you can ask to be accepted for preferential exchange rates and a GBP currency account. Things to consider: no fees to pay for the first year - to avoid the $5/month account fee $1000 has to pass through the account each month. If I'm not trading that month I use dividend dregs to cover the $5. Have been regularly (every 2nd month) transferring GBP-AUD and buying/selling ASX Stocks this way now for a year with no problems or regrets.

De Giro might be another option.1

Thanks for the De Giro recommendation. Terrible faff to get an account created and funded but otherwise very happy with their modern systems.

IG has international offices so is likely to offer trading in some ASX shares.0

Alternatively you could see if any of the Australian listed companies have ADRs listed on any of the US stock exchanges, potentially cheaper than buying directly on the ASX exchange.
