Warranty

I bought a Renault used car with a 3 month warranty I paid the deposit with my credit card and bought it outright. I have done around 1000 miles since I bought it. I've had it for 2 and a half months and I returned the car to the dealership as the clutch is going, the gear change from 1st to 2nd is awful and there is an intermittent electrical fault.
Upon inspection the Renault mechanics suggest a new clutch, clean the gearbox (something commonly done on Renault's apparently) and the electrical fault wasn't present when inspected.
Now my issue: the warranty company won't cover the clutch but only the clutch plate. The gearbox cleaning won't be covered.
Is there anything that I can do? Where do I stand with consumer rights? Any help much appreciated

Clutch needs replacing on a 6-7yo vehicle. Wear and tear. Never covered by any warranty...

This actually sounds like Renault are covering the wearable part, the clutch plate. Probably because it wasn't really fit for purpose when you bought it.

I presume the labour to replace it is also covered?

Cleaning or replacing the gear oil with new/clean oil(?) shouldn't rack up much of a bill if the major labour costs of removing and refitting the gearbox is covered under the warranty.

Have they quoted what Renualt are paying towards this and what they want you to pay?

They haven't said anything regarding cost but they did mention that if the warranty company didn't pay then it would be up to us to pay up.

Obviously Renault didn't think to do this before they sold us the car.

There were no signs that the clutch needed replacement 2.5 months and 1,000 miles ago.

It's not hard to trash a clutch in a thousand miles, even a new one.

I would have thought that would take serious abuse, an external fault or a design fault. The only clutch failure I've had on a clutch that has done less than 10,000 miles happened when a gearbox oil seal failed and leaked onto a new clutch plate.

I have a 2015 Scenic 3 that had to have a new clutch. It started playing up at 10k miles with a judder and it became terrible at around 19k which is when Renault replaced the clutch and dual mass flywheel. It was under 3 years old and the car is now on 36k and there is a judder returning. At the time the dealership told me that they had had loads of issues with the clutches on Scenics and Capturs. Reading around on the Internet there does seems to be a common theme that these are lightweight. Iv never had clutch issues in any car and i took them well towards 100k.
