I am just wondering people’s thoughts on cleaning when you move out of your house and into a new one?
I cleaned the house I sold and moved into a house that was left in a complete mess! Just always thought cleaning up your mess was the right thing to do.

I have always cleaned property thoroughly, every inch, every surface and cupboards and walls and washed carpets. Only thing I’ve never done is get the curtains dry cleaned if leaving them.0

I left our house absolutely spotless! The whole shebang...oven clean, cleaned out the fridge, cleaned out all the kitchen cupboards, blitzed the bathroom, mowed the lawns and hoovered/dusted everywhere. I wanted it to be nice for the new owners. And I’ll do the same again when/if we ever leave our current house.

Yes, in an ideal world every seller would leave their property in a good clean condition. However, sometimes you run out of time when packing boxes and getting them loaded onto the removal lorry.
If funds are transferred and completion happens earlier than expected, you may find the buyers parked outside, waiting to get in. It's obviously easier to clean once the house is empty, but if you've only just finished loading the lorry and you have the new owners chomping at the bit, then cleaning is forgotten. Of course organised people may have been cleaning as they go along in the days and weeks before moving, but not everyone is that organised unfortunately.

Sometimes, in the heat of packing and moving, people run out of time.
Sometimes, they're simply slobs.3 -
We cleaned the house , everything was kept clean and newish anyway so wasn't a problem. But when we removed the sofa noticed a dirty black mark on the wall behind it where its been touching it
, Not much we could do about that on the day of moving as it ideally needed painting and i had thrown out all the spare paint the week before.
House we moved into was just a dirty house.. Still grubby until we replace everything again !

I think it's impossible to clean completely if you move out the same day new owners are moving in.
if you really want to clean it properly you need it empty (that's what we've done when we've rented).Everyone has different ideas of clean. The people we bought from had obviously done thirty best but with 3 teens and a dog it's hard.0 -
I spent a few days cleaning the property I had purchased.
It's nice to think people would give the property a once over before they leave, but not many seem to.
Have a rant, get it out your system, get cleaning and don't let it spoil your new home feeling.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
To give some context we bought a house that went through probate. No one has lived in it since the beginning of the year. So no issues with the moving out on the day etc. There was years worth of grime in the kitchen cupboards. Crumbs everywhere. Dust in all the rooms. The toilets & bathrooms hadn’t even been cleaned!!! Honestly horrific. We were in such a rush on the day we moved out to get out in time for the new people but still made sure it was spotless.0

we've always cleaned the house before moving out and the wife has always insisted that the hoover is the last thing packed into the removals van.1

Perhaps the executors didn't live near the property and they had a house clearance company in so didn't visit the property prior to completion.5
