Hi there,

I have clumps of what looks like eggs in areas of my clematis plant and there are ants crawling on it too.

We gave it a wash down with the hose the other night and got rid of some of it, but it seems to have returned.

Does anyone know what it is and the best way to get rid of it please?

Thank you in advance.

A photo would help to identify them, but I suspect it's bog standard aphids, especially with the ants [they move them around and protect them]

If there are loads I'd just get my insecticide spray out & squirt them
You will find a million remedies on line, some work better than others, I find for convenience a commercial spry does it just fine for me

If only a few you can squish them between finger & thumb

I've got bugs black and green on many plants this year.where it's essential to get rid of them I use a damp peper towel to wipe leaves and stems with. Fairly disgusting but then I know the birds and bees are safe.
It lasts as long as a spray. Either will remove them for a few days.

I've never bothered to remove aphids from plants; in what sort of situation can they be a problem?

I planted 100 lily bulbs and I didn't bother to remove the lily beetles - now I have no lilies.

Hi there. Tried my best to get a photo but not easy close-up.

    Aphids
Blast with soapy water, plain water or use bug killer.
