Naff all to be done, I suspect. Shame as you've been badly treated, but simply treating someone badly isn't illegal. If the rail ticket is non-refundable, why not have a day out in Bromsgrove? Better than putting it in the bin.0

I was born and lived for 14 years in Bromsgrove, not a place I'd suggest for a day out!3

In these lockdown times, anywhere we are allowed to go is good for a day out 🙂1

What about the Museum of Historic Buildings?TadleyBaggie said:I was born and lived for 14 years in Bromsgrove, not a place I'd suggest for a day out!
To be honest I'd say the same about where I live!0 -
How's the op going to get home from the day out?Ditzy_Mitzy said:Naff all to be done, I suspect. Shame as you've been badly treated, but simply treating someone badly isn't illegal. If the rail ticket is non-refundable, why not have a day out in Bromsgrove? Better than putting it in the bin.0 -
Could buy a second hand car from an air conditioning specialist and drive it home.4

If you had paid a deposit, even a tenner, then you would have a case for breach of contract. However, from your initial post, the vendor at no point actually confirmed his agreement to sell it to you. Any contract made would be verbal only, so it degenerates to 'he said/she said'
Extremely shoddy behaviour, but you don't have any legal grounds to sue.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I suspect you're right, but I can't understand why someone would do this. Putting aside the wasted time and the wasted non-refundable train ticket, why would I commission a full check up on the car if I didn't intend to buy it. Texts such as I'll pick it up on Thursday must imply some sort of contract, although the old adage that a verbal contract is not worth the paper it's written on applies here.macman said:If you had paid a deposit, even a tenner, then you would have a case for breach of contract. In hindsight I should have insisted he take a deposit when I offered. But it's left me wondering what the hill he was hoping to achieve. I still think that morally he should at least refund the cost of the inspection.0 -
A text isn't 'verbal'. It can be presented in court. I have seen it on judge Rinder.0
