I have sold an item for £80 on Ebay but next to the £80 in brackets it says buyer paid £37.91. Any idea what this is.

I don't know either, but I do know that just after moving to managed payments that eBay misreported the price the buyer paid to me too.
I sold 2 items at £140 each but with a 20% multiple item discout.
Buyer bought 2 and paid £224 (with me receiving about £193 after eBays fees) but they insited on telling me on sales page that the buyer has paid £280 (and it still does)!
Maybe the are still sorting out the managed payment glitches? I'd wait and see what actually ends up in your bank account in a few days.
I still hate managed payments!• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

This never happened to me so far and it does sound quite strange, make sure to check the eBay Payout.0
