Culvert not found in local searches

Options
We purchased a property in November and have started some renovation work.  We have found this week that there is a culvert running along the foundations of the house causing major damage.  Should this have been picked up on our local searches when we purchased the property? The previous owners were obviously aware of it as they had plumbed the shower into it 🙈

A culverted what? Depends what searches you actually got - water and drainage is going to tell you whether the property is connected to the mains, not about other watery things in the vicinity of the house.

Plumbing and drainage surveys are usually advised before purchase, this is the reason why.

What did your survey say about it?

Why did you not notice it when you viewed?

The survey didn't pick it up at all and we didn't notice it as they had placed a patio slab on top of the hole they'd made and cemented over the top

And that'll be why the surveyor didn't notice it, either.

Yes, from what I understand of it, it's illegal to put waste water into it as it flows into a culvert as it runs off into the river? Just don't know where we stand with it now as we wouldn't have bought the property had we known as it is running so close to the house and the pipe is damaged which is causing damage to the house

    Where do you stand?

It's your house, your damaged pipe, your culvert, your problem...

Where's it located relative to the nearest drain? I presume this shower is not in isolation, on the opposite side of the house from any other drainage...
