Brittany Ferries Refund

I am writing to confirm that we have cancelled your booking and actioned your refund via method of payment today. This will be a refund to the card ending xxxx for the amount of £xxx and the remaining balance of £xxx will be returned as a voucher which will be posted to you in the next few days.
Please be advised that this may take around 7-10 working days to be seen in your accounts.
If this booking was paid with a Credit Card, please note that certain bank providers may refund back to the original payment date. Therefore we do ask that you check your statements thoroughly before contacting your bank.
Your refund by method of payment for this cancellation includes a voucher because last year you took advantage of the Enhanced Flexibility that we were offering and filled out the webform - “I want to cancel or defer travel and claim a refund credit note.” Your sailings still operated to schedule however we recognised that many passengers did not wish to travel. This offer allowed the full value of your sailing to be used at a later date and was offered as a gesture of goodwill. Therefore there are no cash alternatives to the vouchers issued under the Enhanced Flexibility scheme.
CAN THEY DO THIS? Travel was impossible last year (COVID) and impossible this year (cancelled sailing). I moved booking last year as my children were of an age that a return to France was desireable, I also wanted to help Brittany ferries out by not taking the refund at that time. Kids are now older teenagers and a similar family trip is no longer wanted.
How do I go about gaining a cash refund?
Thanks

It sounds like they are refunding what you paid back to your card but the goodwill incentive to rebook is not being refunded in cash but as a voucher.
That sounds reasonable. You get your money back and can still use the incentive, which you didn't pay anything for, at a later date.

Can they do this? I think so, yes. It sounds like a) you agreed to a credit note, and b) the majority of your payment was originally by voucher anyway. If they're refunding in the same card:voucher ratio that's entirely proper and fair.0

Not clear from your post, but if the originally-booked sailings actually operated, were you entitled to any sort of refund in the first place? Sounds like anything you can get is a goodwill payment.1
