Loft ladder carpet protection

Hello all. I think I am posting in the correct forum. We had a semi loft conversion so I can work up there. Still has a fold down ladder and we want something to protect the carpet as when it's down all day the carpet has marks and we worry it'll get ruined. I bought a rubber mat but it stinks so it may have to go back. Does anyone know of or have something that stops carpet damage and isn't massive so can be moved to a cupboard etc.

What's a semi loft conversion?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Spare bath mat would be cheap, easily foldable and could be sourced from a charity shop too.0

We just use a small piece of plywood, unless you’re up and down it all day then it’s only taking the weight of the ladder,1

What type of ladder is it? If it's timber you could put a piece of ply across between the bottom of the legs. That will spread the load. If it's aluminium, just a couple of pieces of ply about 6" (15cm) square under each foot will do the same job.

I have a carpet offcut, which lives under the bed about 10 feet away. I pop it in the hall where the latter lands and bring the ladder down onto it.
I like these ideas about securing something to the ladder though....OP - are you more concerned about the weight i.e. spreading it with a piece of plywood or making the carpet dirty?
In my case I have light coloured carpets so am worried about keeping the carpet clean. I would be concerned that something attached to the ladder that lives in the loft would get dirty and then make the carpet dirty.0 -
Something as basic as door matt or cheap bath sponges under the feet of the ladder should suffice.0
