If a solicitor isn’t doing his job what can we do to rectify it ?

Make a complaint.0

Read the paperwork you got when you started. It will have details of the complaints process of that solicitors' firm.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

If you want to make a complaint, here's what the Law Society say:

Thanks
we had no paperwork when statted
the other sides solicitors told us he can’t get a response from our solicitor too and we know he’s working as we’ve spoken to his PA multiple times who says he will call us back that day and never does
if we get another solicitor it will take months get get to this stage
it’s a contract with neighbours about the house we are having built next door to them we have to have in place as there was an error in plans this neighbour had done and sold the land and a builder put our foundations on a tiny bit of the neighbours land - this wasn’t disclosed in the purchase so we haven’t any legal rights to the small bit of land our foundations are in as it’s in the neighbours garden event house it’s a few meters - it’s all been looked at legally
my husband will not change solicitor as the other sides solicitor has recommended we stay as we are
Thankyou0 -

Can't imagine why the other side's solicitor would recommend that...2 -
Well, if your partner doesn't want to change law firms and you yourself say it would take months to get to the stage you're at right now with a different company, you don't have a lot of options other than to try to work with the solicitor you originally chose. Is he a one-man band or are there other solicitors at the same practice? You could consider complaining to the head of the company re his non responsiveness to his clients and opposite solicitor. What does the PA say when you ring again and tell them he hasn't rung?Could you make an appointment to see the solicitor in person?0

If this isn't a one-man band, then your first port of call should be the firm's managing partner. The procedure for making a complaint will be detailed in the terms of engagement that will have been provided to you when you contracted with the solicitor.
If it's a one-man band and you can get no response to a written complaint, then you can go to the SRA.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
