If your over 70 driving licence is due for renewal and you don't have a current passport prepare for a long delay as you cannot renew online.
As I understand the DVLA staff are in are in dispute over returning to work following lifting of Covid restrictions and are only working a couple of days a week according to some South Wales Media (Google it). The same media report that they have a backlog of hundreds of thousands of applications increasing daily.
The DVLA appear to have cut off lines of contact as I discovered when trying to locate my application.
It is possible to renew at authorised Post Offices, but if you have to use mail service, copy everything, send by special delivery and download a copy of DVLA leaflet "INF188/6", " Driving while your application is with the DVLA". Good Luck

So is the answer to get a passport, so that you can renew your driving licence?
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Getting a passport is a waste of money, who needs a passport?

Really useful to know this, @AlbieBell601
I shall pass this on to some of my family who are approaching seventy.
would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .
