Bath - Steel?

Old fibreglass bath has cracked so need to replace it. I notice that there are now Steel baths available, are these any good, would a steel one be stronger than firbeglass?
It is going to be a tight fit as it looks like the existing one is probably 700 x 1700 but very tight fit and almost recessed into the wall at one end. Any suggestions on a good supplier or are they all much the same.

1. Generally better made, certainly than the cheaper plastic ones.
2. I personally like Kaldewei or Bette.
3. They do lose heat faster than plastic.1 -
As above, Have fitted many Kaldewei steel baths, they have been around for years .Choose Stabila !2

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm surprised that they loose heat faster, I would have thought that once they were warm they would have stayed warm, but then perhaps I am thinking about the old Cast Iron ones I guess the Steel ones are much lighter.0

Steel baths look nicer when cleaned imo however I once dropped a shampoo bottle and it left a small dark chip on the tub which sort of put me off them.2

I'd go with a good quality acrylic. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I've wondered in the past if it's worth putting loft insulation in around the bath, but never have.We had a Kaldewei bath when we did a refurb in our last house and plan to have another.Make £2026 in 2026

I've been very pleased with the acrylic bath we bought from Carron. It is a 'Carronite' spec so is better made than most. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1

A relative dropped a bottle of shampoo into an acrylic bath and split it. They advised we replaced ours with steel (which was what we had at the time). I have dropped oodles of stuff on the new one and it has been fine. I did take a chip out of the enamel on our old steel bath by dropping the shower head on it though.

Steel. Especially if you plan to use it as a shower too.1
