What should I do if my smart gas meter seems to be wrong?

Could you pls help me?

I just notice that in February, my gas meter reading was still about 1100.

Then in March it suddenly went up to 6000.

Then in April, May and June, the reading was about 6100, 6300, 6400.

So it suggested that something was wrong in February and March.

Now that I noticed this. What should I do so that the fault, if any, can be discovered and my bill is resolved?

Thank you for your kind help.

You report it to your energy provider. They will conduct a check which they usually charge for if no fault is found.

However, do you mean the smart meter itself, or the separate monitor?

Thank you. The e.On supplier said that the gas (and electricity) reading was done by the smart meter and they did not even need me to submit my reading. Only now did I find this inconsistency starting from February.

e.On has booked an engineer to visit my home to test the gas meter, two weeks from now.

Could you pls advise what I should/can do if the engineer then said they could not find any fault with the gas meter?

    Thank you

What's happened to your account balance?  Have you suddenly been hit with a big deficit, or was it perhaps that the meter "stuck" for a couple of months (creating an underspend) and now has caught up?  In other words, for the period from January to now, is the number of units consumed roughly correct?

Where are you getting these readings from - bills  ?  It may well be that the supplier was not getting readings and was estimating low and when the system eventually kicked into action the reading used shot up to the real value.  I am afraid the wonderful smart metering system that the TV adverts tell us is infallible is far from it.

One reason to always read your meters. Even if they are smart....
