  • Where would I find a design guide for where I live?

I have a South facing garden. The sun sweeps across from left to right and so we get sun all day. That's why I'm worried, because I presume their first floor windows would then only get direct sunlight from about 1pm-3pm.

    Google your local
authority name and 'supplementary planning guidance' or 'residential extension design guide' or similar.

It'll be there somewhere in the form of a booklet, or call the planning office and ask where to find it.
