Are there any decent free ones? Motley Fool's seem to have closed, advfn is chargeable... any others out there?

There's London South East, https://www.lse.co.uk/share-chat.aspNot sure if that's the sort of thing you're after, it's not really my cup of tea.

https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/ is where a lot of Motley Fool discussion migrated to. Don't use it myself.

I used to look at Lse.co.uk but found the share chat off-topic, sometimes derogatory with some ramping up and ramping down of individual shares.
In terms of share chat that is on point and informative, I prefer tithe share chat on ADVFN.
I can’t stand the ADVFN home page. Far too busy and too many adverts.
If I am interested in a share I google “ADVFN XXX” where XXX is the ticker of the share. I get information on the share without too much extraneous chaff.2 -
I have for years read LSE daily and ADVFN occasionally for the AIM companies in which I am invested. I have never posted anything on either. I check for RNS's using LSEIt seems to me that the vast bulk of posts in chat rooms are just idle banter but there are occasional posts which are useful. Over time you will identify the few posters with good knowledge of the company. There are some posters who are trying to talk the share up and others who are trying to talk it down. There are some who are attracted to a company because the share price has risen steeply and post with great enthusiasm and others who post doom and gloom simply because they have heard no news from the company for a while and some whose posts show hardly any knowledge of the company.1

Do you own research. There's plenty of quality material available. I wouldn't rely on idle chatter to form an opinion. Reading the half year/annual accounts is informative.0

Mostly I regard reading chatroom posts as entertainment but there is the occasional post which is a real gem with a link which provides useful insight into the area in which the company operates.

I occasionally visit LSE but there is often a lot of !!!!!! posted there...“Like a bunch of cod fishermen after all the cod’s been overfished, they don’t catch a lot of cod, but they keep on fishing in the same waters. That’s what’s happened to all these value investors. Maybe they should move to where the fish are.” Charlie Munger, vice chairman, Berkshire Hathaway0
