External back Garage Door. Standard size does not fit

I am trying to replace my back garage door which has seen better days. The standard size for a basic door costing around £100 is 1981 height 762 (30 inches) width. The height is fine. However my current door is 29 and a half inches wide. I have tried several builders merchants who confirm the door i require is ideal for my purpose but none of them will trim off half an inch from the side even when i purchase the door from them I am not a DIY myself and had hoped for a simple solution without incurring a large expense for the sake of half an inch!!!!! Any suggestions please.

Builders merchants do not trim doors, carpenters do so either cut it yourself or get a carpenter in. That said my local indy DIY store will trim a solid wooden door down on their big sheet saw, 100% at purchaser's risk though.

Take 1/4 inch off from each side.0

As stuart said 1/4 inch from each side approx 6.5mm but you need a 3mm clearance around the door so 9 to 10mm each side. To do it yourself is straight forward just need a circular saw. A carpenter (in my area) charges about £60 to fit a door + fittings thats if you can get one these days.
