Correct tool for removing shower thermostatic valve

The thermostatic valve (lower) is held in place by a brass collar with 2 flats on the thread and 2 cutouts. In their video bathstore show the collar being removed with waterpump pliers. However nothing in the video is done up any more than finger tight to begin with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pVuvG6q84A When I try the pliers they slip and cut up the brass. I've also tried an adjustable spanner but can't get the collar to move. I buy a longer handled adjustable spanner but am wondering if some sort of socket can be bought to go over the whole thing.

I don't see why a normal adjustable shouldn't be able to undo that. Try wrapping something around it for a better grip or getting a bigger spanner. You could also try a strap wrench on it.
What make of shower is it?0 -
I think it is a bathstore own brand/made for them, the shower head is the only bit that is labelled and the shower was there before I purchased the house.neilmcl said:I don't see why a normal adjustable shouldn't be able to undo that.
