Creda Condenser Tumble Dryer

Options
Hi. Wondering if any engineers are out there who could help me. My Creda condenser tumble dryer decided to stop working yesterday! I cleaned out the filter, condenser unit as it had fluff in it but noticed that the water wasn't collecting as it should be. In fact, the water unit was bone dry! The tumble dryer works for about 4 or 5 minutes but then turns itself off. It still produces heat though so its not as though the element has broken. Its as if its overheating and then cutting out. It then works again but continues to cut out.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated! Lynn

    Im not an engineer.

That said, it does sound as though its overheating. Have a look at where the filter fits to see if theres been a build up of fluff thats stopping the warm air circulating. Also, if its the big rectangular filter make sure its fully cleaned out. Our old tumble dryer was a creda and it occasionally did this. If i remember i ended up stripping the whole thing down, cleaning it all, then it was fine for 2 years.

Dont forget to unplug it when youre working on it.

    Hope i helped,

    Mick

We swapped a broken Whirlpool for a Creda dryer which did this from day one - kept cutting out and the water container remained dry. We took it back and swapped it for a Bosch.
  • Hi Mick. Thanks for this. I did rather neglect it with the fluff and have given it a thorough clean but this hasn't helped. I do agree with you that I think its re-heating. Which filter are you referring too? Is it the one in the door? I took the back off and ran the dryer (I know - not a very safe thing to do)! and the element seemed to be glowing on one side which didn't look right to me!! Do you think the thermostat may have given up the ghost? Also, not sure as to why it has stopped collecting water. Thanks again Mick. Lynn
  • Well ..... this dryer has bugged me all day! I got home from work and took the thing apart (unplugged it first of course)! It had loads of fluff inside it which I've vacuumed away but it still keeps cutting out after a few minutes. I thought I'd cracked it after I cleared a huge bit of fluff from around the heating element but this hasn't worked either. What else can it be? There is still the problem of the water not collecting in the water holder. Perhaps this is the root cause - who knows!!! It's so annoying as its working albeit for a few minutes, cuts out, and then works again! Doesn't help me though with a load of wet washing hanging on the radiators though!
