Temp work surface for hob

We currently have a 90cm range cooker that doesn't form part of our future kitchen plans. The replacement ovens are already in situ and the one in the range is temperamental so its just taking up space. I had thought of replacing the range with a drawer unit and putting the long term hob into a temp worksurface on top but the cutout has to be 780mm x 500mm and for each work surface I've seen this would leave too thin margins. Anyone know of a suitable material?

I don't understand. Are you saying that 6cm on the sides is too little for usual worktops and that's why your want something unusual?

We had OSB for 4 months!Used some random offcuts of a £40 ikea worktop as big cutting boards.
to be fair, osb probably costs as much as that Ikea worktop now.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Power tools should be used with adult supervisionSome days, I shouldn't be allowed near one...If you want to learn how to use tools and get to grips with DIY, it might be worth hooking up with your local men's or women's shed - https://menssheds.org.uk/ https://www.sheshed.org.uk/Having the confidence to tackle even the basic DIY tasks can save quite a bit of money and you don't need a big pile of expensive tools.

Well, just find some handyman to do this for you then (normal worktop, not sure about solid laminate). You can also use 12-18mm plywood if 'temp' means what it says.0
