Worried about short term tenancy not being renewed

Options
Hi all,
I hope this is the right place to post..

I'm on ESA and pip as i have a few conditions which mean I'm unable to work or look for work at the moment and for the foreseeable future.

I'm in the process of setting up the a supplier for the electricity in the new flat I'm in. There are several issues to resolve such as day electricity reading ticks over at night and night electricity reading ticks over during the day. Also the meter was registered as a business account rather than residential which restricts the ability to give regular readings.

Plus the meter itself was held off limits until they finally relented and gave me a key. I've queried these issues with the landlord, now I'm concerned they will not renew the contract which runs out after 6 months, so in 4 months time. It's cost me a lot of money to move in and I do like it here.

Being ill and on benefits, I can't afford to move and can't deal with the stress. The rent is the first bill paid every month. Does the landlord need 'a reason' not to renew the tenancy? Can they not renew for private reasons such as I might be perceived as being difficult about the electricity meter issue?

Thanks,

They can choose not to renew for any or no reason at all, why not try and ask them what their intentions are to try and put your mind at rest.

If the LL doesn't renew the tenancy it automatically becomes either a SPT or a CPT. Read...

Provided you're on time with your rent and an otherwise good tenant, the landlord would be silly to get rid of you over the meter issue.

Don't forget, it will cost them time and money to replace you and thats without any potential void period. Communication is key.
