What is wrong with having football on in the background.

Having a bit of something you enjoy is part and parcel of the success process.

i respect that poster's view on that,  but in honestly i was just going through slides i'd already seen to reinforce the learning.  the football was on very quietly in background and was barely watching it.

as i said in my post,  in general i found it easier going through it like that than i did during the training sessions,  and also more enjoyable too.

Ultimately everyones different you just got to do what works for you.

I think it's clear from your posts you do care about your future though :) you will do what you need to do once you figure out what it is!

just a quick thanks for the responses,  it has made me feel a bit better knowing it is a normal situation and others have had similar experiences too.
i will provide a proper response in due course,  but i think getting to the weekend and having an opportunity to relax a bit has done me some good.
You will get there. I wonder of you could record the sessions using pc software. I have done that for meetings before and referred back to it later. You may have to say you are recording it, although ultimately if you keep it to yourself no one will know.

When I was promoted again, it was for a role that no one knew what to do. All the teams had been made redundant and there were no notes at all anywhere. Without revealing what I was doing it was a ring fenced financial scheme that was very high profile.  So there is me trying to figure out what to do. A bit like being told to cook a meal but you are in an empty room.

I did get there though through hard work and talking to others. I'm sure you will get there. The tip though is not to live and breathe it 24/7.

    thanks.
today was still confusing, but a bit better as did a 1-2-1 with one of trainers and i think it helped a bit.
and i was talking to one of the others in the training group, and it seems he feels pretty clueless too. so in a way, that was a bit of a boost to here that.
i will just persevere and try and learn it bit by bit.
in terms of recording the sessions,  i actually don't think it would help too much as it always goes off track at points.

A big problem with remote learning is that you don't really get any sense of how others are actually doing.  No chat during breaks where you can try to clarify points either with the trainer or other attendees.  From the other side, the trainer isn't getting normal feedback either.  Even if it's all video based, the trainer won't be able to scan the various screens in the same way as they could scan a room and spot a fleeting confused or blank look.
You do need to say, during the session, that you haven't understood something and get it clarified.  If you don't, that confusion will only get worse as the weeks pass and more complex aspects of something you already struggle with will make things far worse.  If the trainer is reluctant to take questions, or shows any sign of annoyance at questions, you need to raise it with your own manager immediately.

thanks.  yes it is a challenge learning remotely, especially on complex stuff.
the issue for me is the style of training,  as we share screens and go through our problems in the afternoon as a Q & A style.  but then the first person who gets in can be doing their work (with trainer assistance), and we all watching,   but before you know it 1 hour has passed.  in that time i just want to be practicing on my own work, but you can't do it in background as you've got as far as you can.
whilst i can see why they do it (so you see a variety of situations),  it kinda becomes a bit pointless as everyone has thier own sticking points.  having said that,  i have found doing 1-2-1 this week on aspects to be more helpful.
the other issue is the lenght of sessions / lack of break.  sometimes it can be over 2 hours, and that for me is just too much to maintain focus.  am i alone in thinking that?
also have gotten to speak to couple others in group, and they said they are confused. so i guess that's good it's not just me.
so fingers crossed it will come together.
    thanks.

Often there's a lot to be squeezed in. Open the window and have drinks to hand.
  • I think you’re right about breaks.  Concentration does dip after a prolonged period (and 2 hours is prolonged). After a short break concentration is up again.  I would expect trainers to timetable these into sessions.
Being online maybe doesn’t offer the same opportunities for change in activity or focus within sessions that you would have in a group situation.  It’s probably worth mentioning if you feel it’s hindering you.
