    thanks for the responses.

in the few months i have learnt alot, and still more to learn of course. but is is interesting and i am comfortable with risks when i buy funds, and have also learnt about trying to diversify etc.

in response to one of my questions above about timelines, with the SIPP, it's clearly a long term because i can't withdraw for at least 20 years.  with regards to Stocks & Shares ISA,  it kind of depends how it does.  but if it has done reasonably well then i may use it to pay a nice chunk of mortgage (when fix term ends),   but if not, i'd be happy to hold it longer term.

also, my non equity allocations in my portfolio essentially comes from the mix investment funds i hold which i regularly invest into,   and the the satellites are always equity and on sectors that appeal to me, or i want more exposure in.

but i also see the point about Alexland above who explains employer default schemes. the return has been OK, but not great, however as it was the default scheme, the platform charges are a bit lower just for that funds holding, as i guess it was negotiated with HL by the employer.

based on the above comments though, i do think maybe i should add more equity to the SIPP, and considering adding a global thematic fund to it which is always a longer term type investment,  but i'm still deliberating on this (something i posted on another thread).
