Issue With Painting Masonry

I painted our concrete fence posts/slabs last summer with masonry paint, applying two coats.  They appear to have been painted maybe 3 times previously, and what I didn’t realise until now is that the previous coat was applied using fence paint.  The paint I applied is already flaking off in places particularly where something has rubbed against it, although is still holding in the vast majority of areas … for now.
Any suggestions, please?  I’d like to use the same paint/colour as last time if possible as I already have a large can, but I guess it would be still be prone to flaking if I simply paint over what is already there.
Thanks

You are correct; you'll want to sand/scrape off the paint first.
  • Yup - 'fence paint' is a strange stuff, very effective where it's needed and that's on rough-swam timber. It ain't designed for masonry, but as anyone who's dripped any on a concrete path will know, it kinda sticks quite well to this too...
The only thing I know that'll stick to fence paint is more fence paint.
No easy options that I can think of. I guess try pressure-washing the posts and see if all the masonry paint comes, and then stick with the fence paint as long as that is still adhered well.
Or, a lot more work to remove the fence paint too, so's you're back to bare concrete and then use the masonry p.
There are primer/sealers for sorting out many bad paint combos, but personally I don't think I'd go there as 'fence paint' is an unusual product.
Pressure-wash (and perhaps a wire-brushing?) and see where that gets you. It'll either be back to the fence paint, or back to bare concrete (or - worse - a bit of both!).
