    Thanks Lycra, that's very useful information.

    The ex is happy with the re-mortgaging idea. I will advise my friend to response to the 2nd solicitor's letter. My friend obtained three valuations and their ex partner obtained 2. I believe they are joint tennants with no Deed of Trust in place. The child is 16 and still in full time education. I'm not sure whether maintenance is still due given this.

    Although I said I was arranging MIPs, we are using a broker for this..

    OK, your friend and her new partner need to have a long talk. How much are they both putting in in equity and mortgage payments? What happens if they split up; maybe better to look at tenants in common etc? That way the friend can leave her portion to her child rather than it going to the new partner. They both need wills.

    CSA should be paid for the child until they end secondary education, even if it's after they're 18th birthday. If it's not being paid, it might be a good idea not to rock the boat until the re-mortgage is sorted out.

    When did the new partner come into discussion? The thread is about the ex and how much he should/wants from his share of the house his ex and new partner are living in.

    From what the OP has said they want to remortgage the house in both her friend and new partners name and pay off the ex, am i right? So the OPs friend needs to get a surveyor to value the house and make an offer to the ex, he either agrees or disagrees until they reach a solution.

    Negotiate the £10k down. Once the remortgage is complete. Approach the Child Maintenance Service and formalise the situation. Can be payable until 18 or even 20.
