Hi Hoping somebody can help on this.
The email address I use is a hotmail address and a few days ago I had a problem logging in because I hadn't been asked for ages I kind of forgot the correct password so had to use a password reset. After a time of tying myself up in knots, I had to use their password verification system which apparently unknown to me (I have a two step system) in which I highlight the bit which asks me for the last 4 digits of my number then get sent a code number, but unfortunately now it says in red ' you have tried to access codes too many times today please try again tomorrow'
So when you do that the next day for the first time that day it comes up with exactly the same message?
I've been onto Microsoft and they went through the password recovery form with me for which I had to have the verification code sent to my daughters Gmail account and after being able to answer the questions that would verify who I was, which includes give them the last 3 email addresses that you have messaged on your account and then they will get back to you within 24 hours.
So I sat back and relaxed waiting on my daughter to get back to me with anything from Microsoft.
She then sends my wife a message from MS 8 minutes later saying 'it looks like you've used the MS recovery form to request a password reset 'because you've turned on two step verification for your account, we IGNORE these requests, but wanted to let you know. ????????
I rang MS back quoting my case number (which doesn't really tell them anything apparently so had to explain all over again ????
The only thing that the MS lady in the Philippines could tell me was that it is automation that checks these things out and not humans, (so its not like a human can override anything for me) and that because the automated algorithms are probably confused by my requests over the last couple of days and what would be best would be to try a password reset in 3 DAYS. ???????
I then questioned her on the validity of what she said and asked to speak to somebody to make a complaint, she said she would put me through and then the phone went dead.
So in essence any ideas anybody? with my predicament?
Will the 3 day thing work?
I haven't been able to access my mail for the last 2 days already.
Is there a totally different email provider that my hotmail emails can go across to? that won't require a MS password?
Thanks for taking the time to read this post and possibly offering a solution?
Thankyou

If its a free Hotmail account you are back of the queue for technical support. Always have been.Easiest solution is just set up a new account, if you can't get back into that one you'll have lost it.0

To their credit, Microsoft make it very hard to reset access to a hotmail/outllook/live email account if you haven't set up alternative identifiers (usually a phone number and/or alternative email address). If you haven't done this then you might find it very hard to get access back, especially (as Neil_Jones says above) if it's a free account.
If it's not imperative then walk away and get a new account.0 -
Hi you might get a better answer in the techie forum, and an even better answer on the microsoft community boards for outlook.0

" I kind of forgot the correct password "
Not sure what that means but take this opportunity to keep an up to date list of all your user names and passwords. There are a number of free password managers for this. If you use Google Chrome passwords are stored there and that also applies to some other browsers so that may be a place to look.1 -
We've moved this to the Techie Stuff board for youOfficial MSE Forum Team member. Please use the 'report' button to alert us to problem posts, or email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi
Depending on the browser, your login passwords are stored, and can be accessed.
Dummy screenshots natch.
Firefox, Chrome etc may be able to show the stored value.Forum, Agin 'em or Just Neutral?1
