Removals problem.., thoughts?

Removals company came yesterday to shift everything to storage ahead of move to new house in a couple of weeks.
They’d visited to work out how big a job it was (and sent two guys to pack a few days ago).
Turns out the two Luton vans they sent weren’t enough so disappeared for 3.5 hours before returning with van to take remaining stuff.
Obviously they want to charge me for extra van (and same on next leg of the move). Comes to £1000 extra to rectify their !!!!!!-up. If I’d known the true price I would have used another company.

Any thoughts as to where I stand legally? I’ve only paid deposit so far (bank transfer) but obviously my bargaining position is weakened by them having all my stuff!

Nope. They came and saw how big the job was and quoted you for this. They underestimated and want you to pick up the bill. Check their T&Cs.0

Years ago we ended up having an additional lorry due to the quantity of items assessed too low, we didn’t get charged extra, it was the companies assessors fault. The guys packing just grumbled amongst themselves asking who’d I’d seen for the quote, no doubt he was not getting a bonus that month.0

Added annoyance was that despite offering us a deal on additional costs, they didn’t include VAT so 20% extra on the extras!0 -
