I’m in a similar position ideally I want to buy a property normally and have freehold. However this might mean something unsuitable miles from work and family.0

Our choice would always be to own a full house rather than a share.0

Surely it's better for you to choose a house in an area you like and is convenient to your lifestyle and is financially viable.
Personally I wouldn't touch shared ownership and would save until I could afford a deposit in an area of my choosing. I understand not everyone can and we were fortunate.
If you can afford to own fully it's what I'd do.
Ask yourself this. Presumably you rent in the area you are in now or live with family so you chose to live there for however long. Why didn't you choose to live now in the "better area".
If your happy in your area then that's what matters0
