The Customer Support is a shocker to me as well. But to those who wonder how they still in business.. they are just about to open the biggest Warehouse in Europe here in South Yorkshire so go figure.

I honestly don't understand why pople still use Hermes. They used to be cheaper than many other couriers but it's not the case anymore. I swapped to UPS few months ago and I'm overly happy with it. They aim to deliver in 1 day, tops 2 and there's a much better customer service provided. Granted, I never had to deal with them as they always delivered on time and in excellent condition.

I have to say, I've used Hermes a lot over the years - their drop-off point here is a fuel station, so always open which is a real bonus. I can't recall the last time I had any issue with them. I give them regular feedback (usually when they prompt me!) and it's always been 5*
I notice that many couriers - probably including Hermes - take photos of packages left at your house as proof of its condition and that it has been left (I'm happy to have them left on our doorstep), so if you want to add a further level of protection, you take a photo of the package too as you drop it off.
All fine me saying this in retrospect, but this should cover you in future - any change in package fixing should be obvious. You could even enhance this by marking the fixing tape with a permanent marker, so it would hopefully be obvious if cut or tampered with.
In any organisation, there will be some rogue employees. But only a few. Hermes should be able to narrow down the places where the tampering took place, and I'm sure will be as keen as you (well, almost) to find anyone who will obviously be giving them a bad name.

Received a package via Hermes one of those plastic/padded bags and there was a nice slit where it folded over.

Seemed a bit strange but the items inside were bundled and well taped as was the package, folded and sealed and
the seller had also added some clear tape.

Don't remember the guy taking a photo, but it was label side up so it would not have shown the slit. Something fine
and sharp like a stanley blade.

Makes me wonder what their staff turnover is like. How many complaints before they terminate their employment?

I often reuse postage material so I open my bags carefully.  I do however seal it with thick, bright tape so if it arrived the other end without that on, I could easily prove it had been tampered with.  (Plus the adhesive would make it difficult without ruining the bag too.)
