I've received raffle tickets from the Greyhound Trust however to pay they are asking for all my credit card details including the security code, also telephone number and signature and asking me to post it off to them.  How safe is this?

I wouldn't do it but the reality is 99.99% or something of all letters are delivered to their destination safely.

I assume you trust the company (never heard of them) in which case can you not find a phone number and try and pay over the phone?

I had similar dilemma with Redwings.

Couldn't bring myself to do it, so they missed out.

Can't send raffle tickets by phone unfortunately.

Thank you for replies.  In this day and age you'd think they'd have a better payment method.  I really don't feel comfortable doing it

I had the same when sending some film off to be developed (yes this still happens esp as all the drop off places were closed due to covid) but theirs at least said if you dont complete it they'll phone you for payment... of cause then you are giving your card details to some random person that calls you out the blue.

I used to post a form containing my full credit card details and signature to pay my Council Tax every month, before they had an online payment system set up.
When your bank sends you a replacement card, that comes through the post, and has all the same details on it.

Though normally the card requires some form of activation so if intercepted its useless... also why they always say to call the fraud team if the envelope looks tampered with so if someone's taken the details and put the item back into the postal system you dont then activate it giving them access

    I would not.
No reason for them to need the security code. As they are processing the transaction as customer not present, it can be overridden. Also why signature? Do they have anything to compare it with?

CCV is only ever used in customer not present transactions; if they are processing all their transactions without the CCV then their merchant fees will be higher (or at least it was the last time I was involved in card processing fees)

All of the replacement cards I've received over the last few years have just worked without activation.
Only new accounts seem to need card activation now.

Thank you again for the advice. I've decided not to send it, even if the risk of fraud is small there still appears to be some risk, especially as the envelope actually advertises on the front it contains payment for a raffle.
