Downstairs loo advice

Options
In my house, sometime in the 70s I believe a downstairs loo was added as part of an extension. To put it bluntly it looks a bit of a mess with a small crack in the rim. The waste goes vertically I presume straight into the drains as it’s nowhere near the soil pipe. Around where the waste joins into the floor is what looks like a mess of cement making the join. There is no sink to wash your hands and we use the kitchen.

I would like to try and sort this out, change the loo and add a sink. I know you can get sinks built on top of the loo cistern but wondered if there was some way of adding a separate sink. On another post someone put a link to an s bend waste on a loo which is what made me think, but can anyone advise how I would add the sink waste? It will be all diy due to funds but I’m pretty savvy if I plan ahead, just naive with this set up. Thanks.

You could use something like this connector: McAlpine Wc-Con8v Wc Pan Connector - Toilet Connector | Speedy Plastics (speedy-plastics.co.uk)

Combine this with a new WC to get rid of the crack in the rim and you can add a separate sink.

I built our downstairs loo using this small RAK hand basin: RAK Compact 450mm Cloakroom Wash Basin - UK Bathrooms

I'd recommend using a "Basin Mate" under the hand basin as this makes a reliable connector for the waste. You should also check the installation instructions for the tap to see if you need any check valves. It is unlikely that you will, but best to check when researching the tap that you will fit.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
  • Then basins mounted on top of close coupled wc's cisterns are like marmite  :)

As tacpot12 mentioned, cloakroom basins are available and they encourage hand washing more than the above.

Is the wc in question the main wc for the property ? . Not knowing your wc dimensions there may be an opportunity to have a Smaller (also cloakroom style ) or a short projection wc. Just allows the user more room to manoeuvre  <3

RAK stuff is more than Ok, they also do a 600 series wc's  :)

Has your installer any suggestions ?

Is there room for a little corner basin?
Looking at the new 'for sale' static caravans is quite an eye opener as to what can be done in small spaces.

That's what I've got and I plan to buy another 2 for my new build. I'm amazed at how much my water consumption went down with the dual flush function.
