Windscreen repairs

I’ve just received my Proof of Bonus entitlement following an accident when my car was written off, but that’s another story. My query is why my insurance company paid out £904 for a windscreen chip repair!! I paid the £25 towards the cost but cannot understand where the £904 came from?? I’ve emailed but as usual due to COVID there is a delay. Does anyone know what this is all about? Many thanks

Did you claim a windscreen repair prior to the car being written off?
Even a small chip could be: A) in an unsafe area, or B ) a crack that can expand into an unsafe area
Either of the above means a full windscreen replacement which could be £904, depending on your car.
There aren't enough details in your Q to help us answer, so I'm only guessing

I had a small chip repaired a couple of months before write off. The chip was tiny and in a safe area on passenger side. The chip was repaired in 30 minutes and definitely wasn’t a replacement screen.0
